Where to Eat Vegan Cupcakes in Hong Kong

We've all been there. We all know how it feels. Walking down the streets of Hong Kong, craving a vegan cupcake, but not knowing where to find one - leading to a sulky attitude and a dissatisfied stomach. Worry no more! In this post, you'll be exposed to three of the best places to find vegan cupcakes in Hong Kong. These will instantly gratify your grumbling stomach and lighten up your mood with a refined-sugar free sugar rush!

1. Sweet Secrets Cakes

This small cupcake store, run by a friendly lady named Sarah, is located on Graham street, next to the artfully designed walls of Pololi. They offer a wide range of sweet treats such as cupcakes, birthday cakes, cookies, and brownies. What's more is that all their products are refined sugar free, gluten free, and vegan! Every time I walk by Sweet Secrets, I drool at the tantalizing smell of baked goods wafting out of the store, and it's nearly impossible to resist the temptation of these beautifully decorated, vibrant looking treats. Sarah, the founder of the store, only uses ingredients that are all natural, and she experiments with different ingredients until she finds the perfect recipe that is both healthy and tasty. Pictured on the right are the Beetroot Chocolate and Tumeric Ginger Lime cupcakes. They are not as sweet as usual cupcakes, but they are still delicious nonetheless! Sweet Secrets also recently began to sell their vegan cakes in boxes that can be purchased from the Green Common at the airport, so that's a perfect way to get a first taster of these treats!

2. LN Fortunate Coffee

As if this restaurant has not received enough recognition from my blog, LN Fortuante Coffee deserves another post for their mouthwatering cupcakes that come in the flavours of matcha, chocolate, vanilla, and others. It takes a lot of brainpower to decide which cupcake is my favorite, but out of the two that I've tasted (pictured below), I'd have to say that matcha is the winner. This is because it has the perfect consistency (especially after they heat it up), and the sweet layer of icing balances perfectly with the somewhat bitter cake to provide the ultimate combination of utter deliciousness. Although it is rather pricey ($36 per cupcake), it is cheaper than the other two listed in this post, and I must say that it's probably the most worth it - for its size, presentation, taste, and bonus points for the accompanying seating at the restaurant. I can't recommend these cupcakes enough - if you're ever in the Sai Ying Pun area, you MUST give this restaurant a go!

Last but not least, we have The Cakery, which can be found situated in two of Hong Kong's most popular districts: Central and Causeway Bay. This company believes in the philosophy is "you are what you eat", so they provide a range of cupcakes that are both healthy and enjoyable. All of their cupcakes are gluten free, refined sugar free, and they offer a total of 6 vegan options (so glad that they considered the vegans when designing their menus)! Below, we have the 'FIGGING AMAZING' sugar-free fig cupcake, the 'DAY DREAMER' chocolate cupcake, and the APPLE CRUMBLE cupcake. Out of the three, my personal favorite is the apple crumble one, because it has just the perfect amount of sweetness, and the warm cinnamon apple filling makes it extra palatable and unique. I would not recommend the chocolate one as it tasted very bland - it tasted almost like charcoal - and it didn't resemble the flavour of chocolate at all. Although these cupcakes are extremely pricey ($45 per cupcake), they often collaborate with different green campaigns and offer discounts throughout the year. For example, at the time this post is being written, they are doing a buy one get one free promotion at Lee Gardens every Monday until the end of September in partnership with Green Monday!
